St. Hugh of Grenoble offers religious education on Tuesday evenings for children in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8. All school-aged children in our parish who are not enrolled in a Catholic school in our parish are expected to attend weekly classes in our School of Religion as part of their faith formation.
Parents are encouraged to download and fill out the Registration and Publicity Release forms under Documents.
For more information contact Rohanie Bacchus at [email protected] or leave a message at the Parish Office at 301-474-4322.
St. Hugh of Grenoble Catholic School closed in 2010. Our parish, along with St. Nicholas in Laurel, is part of St. Joseph Regional School in Beltsville, Maryland. Parishioners who want to enroll their children in St. Joseph RS or any other Catholic school, Archdiocesan or independent, should be aware of the following policies concerning sacramental preparation for children.
Families who want their child to receive their First Reconciliation and First Communion are expected to be registered members of St. Hugh Parish and must provide proof of their child's baptism (if not at St.Hugh). The minimum age to receive these sacraments is seven and the children are expected to have had one year of formal catechesis before the year of preparation. There is a mandatory meeting for parents in September of the second year and the completed Sacramental Information Form as well as a sacramental preparation fee of $25.00 (cash or checks made out to St.Hugh Church) are due at the meeting.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Archdiocese of Washington is a two-year program. The focus of religious education for the first year, grade 7, is on the sacramental life of a Catholic. The focus for the second year, 8th grade, is on the history and life of the Church, gifted, guided, and transformed by the Holy Spirit. In addition to the religious education classwork, the work of the second year of preparation involves a commitment from the candidates to monthly lessons, Sunday worship, daily prayer, retreats and Christian service.A parent and candidate meeting is scheduled for early September. If your youth is entering 8th grade this September, please leave your name and contact information with the parish office at 301-474-4322 or email the Confirmation Catechist at [email protected] so that registration materials can be sent to you via email or mail.
Pre-requisites for Confirmation Preparation:
• a basic knowledge of prayer, Scripture, the Sacraments, and living a moral life as stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church
• a desire to be formed as a disciple of Jesus

God is proclaimed through the encounter between persons, with care for their history and their journey. Because the Lord is not an idea, but a living Person: his message is passed on through simple and authentic testimony, by listening and welcoming, with joy which radiates outward.”
